Hayley Maree Jannesen

Filmmaker

Originally from New Zealand, Hayley grew up in Hong Kong and has been traveling the world from a very young age. Trained as an actress at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, after receiving her BFA in Theatre she left for the sunshine coast of California to pursue a career in film. It was not however, until she spent a year in Italy that she began producing her own work. Now with one short film completed, another in post-production, this will be her first documentary. "Murakaza neza team heart" is a particularly special subject for her as her sister will be one of the nurses volunteering on the team. Combining her love for film, for travel and for social responsibility, this will be a true film from the heart.

Leon McCarron

Filmmaker

Leon McCarron was born and primarily raised on the North Coast of Northern Ireland. Upon leaving school, he completed a 3 year course in Film Studies at the University of Kent, attaining a First Class Honours degree. This course combined the academia of film with the practical abilities, and Leon is now utilising these from his permanent base in Canterbury, working freelance as a camera operator and director in the London and South East England area. “Murakaza neza: Team Heart” is such a special project as it provides the opportunity to document people helping to inspire positive change in a country that has suffered so terribly. The aim is that this film can draw attention to the exciting innovations taking place for the present and the future in Rwanda, and combine them with an uplifting, heartening narrative.
